Comforting Continuity

The year my mother passed away, on April 13th, 1986, lilacs and black tulips were blooming in our yard in DC the following month, May... that was the impetus for the first painting of this subject matter. It was hope and rebirth, and beauty, but sadness and grief, as well. I've painted it several times over the years, each time differently, coming from a different place inside.

When we moved to VA, several of the flower themes I had in the garden in DC were echoed in the garden of the home we rent... a circle of early spring flowers around a dogwood tree (tiny iris) in April ...  black tulips & lilacs in May...comforting continuity.

Upcoming Exhibit in June

Full time work, plus parenting, plus teaching two days a week, plus doing a bit of personal assistant work, AND trying to get ready for an exhibit in June, leaves little time for blog posting (or cleaning house, for that matter), but stealing a moment to post a few of the paintings I've been working on recently (will post sizes and media later):

Long time, no art posted

Only posting a couple of drawings tonight... getting back into the blogging swing.

Preparatory drawings of trees with a cloud and of one of my daughters with one of our dogs... didn't see the resemblance between the two drawings until I posted them here.

Painting still unfinished, ranunculus and peonies

detail of ranunculus and peonies (painting in progress)

Several paintings in progress.
Having a strong urge to clear external clutter to allow for a freer flow...
the internal clutter is even more difficult, but some of it seems useful.

Full Moon

Almost a month since my last post... hope to catch up tomorrow.
Meanwhile, some photos of the lovely sky and full moon, caught while making dinner and suddenly running out of the house asking my husband to "watch the fish, it's on broil..."
