to post or not to post

This one started well, but then fizzled... came back to life and then started to fade again. I'll have to look at it again in the morning and decide whether the spot needs to be revisited for another drawing.

snow photo and snow wash/drawing

There was a slight glitch in the daily post attempt, but I hope to be back on track now.

Here is a photo from January 28th - the sky was glowing peach, apricot and pinks, while the snow took on violet and blue shadows. The photo does not do justice to the intensity of the colors.

I'm also posting a wash-drawing I did yesterday. It takes me a long time to acclimate and produce anything I feel is beyond just  a copy of what I see. I think interesting pieces happen when I visit and revisit places and things (and people), tasting and digesting the moments. It's so hard to talk about the creative process.

portraits still not finished

Still working on three portraits, one in oil and two in acrylic. I hope to post the finished paintings soon. Meanwhile, I'm posting a photo from the car window of the sunrise, a photo of a flock of geese, and the tree in the front yard with a fiery sky.

I have an idea for the geese as a watercolor painting, but wasn't able to get out of the car to sketch them. They seem to be  flocking in the fields daily, so maybe I'll catch them later this week if it doesn't snow too much. It's all greys, browns and naples yellow on the overcast days.

Clare and Clark

A painting of one of my daughters and our dog, started today. I took several photos to show different stages. The painting isn't finished, but I thought I'd post the process.

Hunting the Light: sky, cows, trees, etc. ... January 21, 2011

New drama in the sky every morning here

I'm posting photos I took this morning, along with a couple of painting updates. The funny thing is, I'm finding that posting to the blog is almost like having a deadline - not a deadline to finish anything, but a deadline to wrap it up and see what's productive.

I almost posted dinner photos, because it was like painting tonight ...trying to scrounge up what was left of colors in the tube (or food in the fridge) to make something nourishing in some way.

Appreciating every moment

paintings worked on tonight

forest pond approx 3' x 4'

  antherium and birds of paradise

 landscape w/clouds stage 2

   landscape w/clouds stage 3

These are works in progress. I'm shifting back and forth from oil to acrylic, after having spent several months doing watercolors. I now have a studio outside of the home, and no longer have to worry about the smells of turpentine and linseed oil wafting through the kitchen.

WIP

Posting new, unfinished work later tonight. Started a portrait today and will be continuing to work on two landscapes. At this point, I have about 8 paintings in progress, some completely new and some unfinished from years ago. I've been thinking about "when to stop" ...

The Daughter's Challenge: Post the Artwork!

One of my pre-teen daughters suggested I start a blog.

I drove the girls to the bus stop, and heard, from my pre-teen, this small affirmation that my artwork was worth sharing, on the web, in the form of a blog!

I've thought about setting up a webpage to document artwork from the past 30 + years, but, being an artist and not a very task-oriented person (other than making art and encouraging my progeny in their life quest and spiritual development), I have procrastinated.

The website is "under-construction" ...I'm building it as I write this, in my mind.

This is my first web-plunge with my art. Thanks, Honey.
